Who owns a Calendarium account?

Calendarium accounts are owned by individuals, not by organizations. There are two types of Calendarium accounts:
- Free accounts: when you sign up and create a Calendarium account, you have a free account. You can view everything that an anonymous Calendarium visitor would see.
- Subscriber accounts: when you have a free account and decide to get a paid subscription, you become able to create calendars, and invite other people to contribute to your calendars. These other people you invite will have free accounts. When you create calendars, you are the owner of these calendars and all the data in them. Our legal responsibility is to the calendar owner, so we won’t let other people take over your calendar without your permission.
What can Calendarium subscribers do?
Calendarium subscribers can:
- Manage all aspects of their subscription: including updating billing information and cancelling their account.
- Create calendars: subscribers can create an unlimited number of calendars, and as they create calendars, they become calendar owners of these calendars.
What can calendar owners do?
Calendar owners can:
- Access and manage all data in a calendar: calendar owners can edit events they have created and events created by other collaborators of the calendar. They can view and edit all draft events created by other collaborators of the calendar. They can publish, unpublish, and delete all events of the calendar. Calendar owners can also edit the calendar settings, such as if a calendar is public, or if publishing an event requires the owner's approval.
- Manage calendar collaborators: a calendar can have as many collaborators as you want. The calendar owner invites them to collaborate on the calendar, and once they accept the invitation, they become active collaborators. The calendar owner can set a calendar collaborator as inactive if they no longer want them to be able to create events in that calendar. This doesn't delete that collaborator's Calendarium account, they will still be able to sign in and collaborate to other calendars they've been invited to.
- Designate another calendar owner: a Calendarium calendar can only have one owner at a time. At the moment, there is no available feature in Calendarium for the owner to designate someone else as the owner of a calendar, but in the meantime, if you need to pass the torch to someone else, contact us and we'll help you with that.
What can calendar collaborators do?
Calendar collaborators can:
- Manage their own events in the calendar: calendar collaborators can create, edit, and delete their own events in the calendar they have been invited to. They can save events as draft, and when they are ready, they can publish them, or send them for approval if the calendar owner has configured the calendar settings as such.
Designating other people as calendar owners
A Calendarium calendar can only have one owner at a time. It's the subscriber who created the calendar. This person is responsible of their subscription renewal in order for the calendar to remain active and accessible by the calendar collaborators.
At the moment, there is no available feature in Calendarium for the owner to designate someone else as the owner of a calendar, but in the meantime, if you need to pass the torch to someone else, contact us and we'll help you with that.
What happens if the current calendar owner is not available?
It happens — people switch jobs, get laid off, go on extended leave — the calendar owner may be unavailable for any number of reasons. Still, our obligation is to the current calendar owner. That means we’re unable to transfer the calendar ownership without permission from the current calendar owner, communicated from the email address we have on file.
If the account has been frozen due to non-payment for less than a week, we’ll be glad to thaw the account for a week or so, so people can access the calendar in the meantime.
The quickest route to change the owner is often to contact the current owner, and ask them to email us the details of the change they want.
Otherwise, we can also gladly reach out to any current calendar owner at the email address we have on file, and request permission to change the owner. If it’s a company address and another employee has access to the inbox, the person who receives the email can grant permission to change the owner. For security’s sake, permission must come from an address we have on file for the current account owner.
When none of the above is an option, a court order is required to change the owner to the calendar. We will of course readily comply with any court orders to turn data over to the appropriate party.
